Protecting the environment has never been easy. From the pressure of economic growth to the long legacy of colonization, environmental defenders often carry the burden of protecting their land, culture, and future generations — sometimes for decades, often without recognition.
Across the world — from the dense rainforests of Amazonia to the foothills of Altadena, California — communities are on the front lines of climate change. Fires, floods, and extractive industries not only threaten ecosystems but also erode people’s sense of identity, belonging, and hope for what’s ahead.
At RFM Productions, we believe in the power of campaigning, storytelling, science, and solidarity to help communities protect what matters most. Through media coverage, campaigning, storytelling, youth engagement, and on-the-ground recovery work, we bridge worlds that are often seen as distant — yet deeply connected through resilience, creativity, wellness and love for the land.
Here are five ways RFM stands alongside environmental defenders and local changemakers to nurture both people and the planet.
1 Giving Marginalized Communities a Platform to Be Heard
Across Amazonia and beyond, marginalized communities frequently face environmental crises that are often overlooked by leaders including losing their family members to violence, from deforestation and polluted rivers to the erosion of cultural traditions. RFM’s Campaign Program provides these communities with tools, training, and visibility to raise awareness and mobilize global support from policymakers.
Through initiatives like Our Forest Is in Your Hand and the Amazon Awareness Campaign, RFM helps marginalized communities, Indigenous and rural voices reach international audiences through film, social media, and public storytelling. Communities co-create their messages, tell their stories in their own words, and speak directly to decision-makers who can drive change.
RFM’s campaign reached over 16 million people across the Americas – featured at G20’s first social pavilion – the RFM grassroot outreach influenced policymakers worldwide leading to the declaration of a national conservation day. Our campaigns don’t just spread awareness — they demand accountability. By amplifying voices from places often left out of policy conversations, RFM turns silence into action and isolation into influence.
“When leaders ignore local realities, storytelling becomes an act of resistance,” says Rafaela Moura, RFM Founder.“

2. Rebuilding After Wildfires in Altadena, California
Across the hemisphere, RFM works with communities in Southern California recovering from wildfire devastation. Through our Wildfire StoryLab initiatives, we bring together scientists, students, and storytellers to test soil, restore burned landscapes, and share lessons of resilience that travel from California to the Amazon.
Our youth-led workshops in Altadena empower students to see their local hillsides as living laboratories — where recovery, science, and storytelling meet. By training young people in field sampling, documentary production, and environmental communication, RFM builds a bridge between climate science and social empathy.
3. Inspiring the Next Generation Through Youth Engagement and Empowerment
Through RFM’s youth engagement programs, future generations experience firsthand what it means to protect the environment and their culture. From student-led storytelling projects to cross-continental exchanges between Altadena and Amazonia, we equip young people with the knowledge, creativity, and leadership skills to take action in their own communities.
By learning from elders, scientists, traditional leaders, and mentors in the field, youth participants gain not only environmental awareness but also a deep sense of purpose. They come to see that their voices matter — and that protecting the planet begins with understanding the stories behind it.

4. Delivering Docu-Series That Educate and Empower the Front Lines
Through RFM’s docu-series productions, we bring educational materials and human stories directly from the source — the people living and working on the front lines of environmental protection. These films capture the voices of environmental defenders, leaders, farmers, scientists, and youth who rarely see themselves reflected in mainstream media.
By transforming lived experiences into cinematic narratives, our docu-series helps audiences understand complex environmental challenges through authentic local perspectives. They also offer a morale boost to those who have long defended the land without acknowledgement — allowing them to see their courage, wisdom, justice, and impact celebrated on screen.

5. Supporting Local Economies Through Art and Forest Wellness
During the holiday season, RFM partners with local artists and artisans to sell and promote wellness products crafted from the forest. These collaborations celebrate the power of sustainable livelihoods — connecting Amazonian ingredients like buriti, copaíba, and murumuru with eco-conscious consumers around the world.
Each handcrafted product tells a story of cultural preservation and environmental care. By blending creativity, commerce, and conservation, RFM helps communities generate income while honoring their traditions and protecting their ecosystems.
